As a young child, owner Tom Pierson found the world of trains fascinating. His parents were very supportive of this from trips to the hobby store to allowing modeling activities to take place throughout the house. His mother even joined a model train club to support her son’s hobby before he could drive.
It was not surprising when Tom’s first job in high school was at a local hobby shop, before graduating and moving on to a career in engineering and fabrication.
While moonlighting in the exciting world of motorsports Tom decided to branch off on his own. Deciding to mix design with the additional challenge of using nonconventional materials, Composite Designs Inc. was born. Focusing primarily on composite parts for motorsports at first, Composite Designs has slowly evolved out of the motorsport field and focused primarily on model railroading. It has produced several custom 1″ scale boxcab locomotives for customers.
At the end of 2019 we were given access to a laser cutter and started to produce laser cut picnic tables and detail parts. Then suddenly the world shutdown and with additional time additional products were created. Not only were they created, but people were buying them! This prompted us to purchase both a laser and a 3D printer and then larger ones. Today with the help of his wife and his daughter we focus on producing the best laser cut and 3D printed kits we can.
We hope you will follow along for the ride because it’s been an adventure!!!
